SINTEF is Scandinavia’s largest independent research organisation and is a non-profit research foundation. It employs 2100 people most of whom are in Trondheim and Oslo (Norway). More than 90% of its annual turnover derives from contract research for industry and the public sector in Norway and internationally, and it receives minimal state funding (around 6%).

SINTEF is multidisciplinary, with international top-level expertise in a wide range of technological and scientific disciplines, medicine and the social sciences. The company vision is „technology for a better society“, and it is an important aspect of its societal role to contribute to the creation of more jobs. It acts as an incubator, commercialising technologies through the establishment of new companies. The fully owned legal entity SINTEF AS by its institute SINTEF Digital, represents SINTEF in the consortium with the Department of Mathematics and Cybernetics.

SINTEF has long experience in developing and testing embedded real-time control systems for a wide range of applications such as robotics, industrial and SmartGrid applications. It has strong expertise within real-time systems and applications, the ROS middleware for robotics, SW/HW interfacing, and specialised embedded systems.

SINTEF has led the software development and integration testing of both I3DS and EROSS. And has the role as interface engineer and product maintainer of these projects coordinating with the other OG’s, and therefore has the leading expertise in how the sensor suite interfaces works and how to use the complex set of tools needed to develop and build it.

This puts SINTEF to maintain and further the develop the sensor suite software and prepare it for the route to space.

Role in the Project:

SINTEF was responsible for adapting I3DS to the needs of CoRob-X by the development of new sensor interfaces.
